NCCSD at the 68th United Nations Conference in 2019Dr. O.S. Mbuya, a Professor of Agricultural Sciences and Director of Center for Water Resources at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), USA represented NCCSD at the 68th United Nations Civil Society Conference held at Salt Lake City, Utah from August 26 – 28, 2019. The conference focused on “Building Inclusive and Sustainable Cities and Communities”, among other things. As many countries are in the implementation phase to achieve Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs), Prof. Mbuya stressed that governments cannot achieve these goals by themselves, but by working together with Civil Society (NGO’s, community groups, labor unions, charitable organizations, faith based organizations, professional organizations, foundations, etc.). Dr. Mbuya explained the synergy of working together where he gave an example of the National Council for Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Public Leadership (NCCSD) an NGO from India, collaborating with academia (institutions of higher learning) in India and United States (FAMU, Anand Agricultural University, Junagadh Agricultural University and VRTI), the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India to promote and implement Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Rural Development in India. This example was hailed as role model of “working together to achieve integrated solutions for complex challenges”. “Working together works”, Prof. Mbuya stressed.
